Decorating for Autumn

September through to November is a time to enjoy the crisp morning air, the abundance of fallen leaves that boast colours of rust orange and brick red, and to cosy up in your home with a good book and even better company.

In this blog, we will discuss points to help you decorate in harmony with your wood burning stove, for the ultimate autumnal experience.

Lighting

First up, it’s lighting. This is imperative to create the ultimate autumnal ambience in your living space. Take note of where your stove sits within your home and try to balance the blaze it creates, by having light dance from opposite sides of the room.

Floor standing lamps offer elegance and power. Go for something simple so as not to take away from your log burner. Or take a leap and go for an abstract style lamp that offers its own focal point to your room. In addition, hanging lights are a perfect, simplistic feature for your lounge or study. With a warm white, these small but atmospheric lights will draw your attention in without taking away from the main event.

Décor

When it comes to décor, going for some faux foliage will bring the beauty of nature into your home but with the ease of no commitment. Try autumnal maple leaves, pumpkins, dried flowers, and pinecones. Hang them around your mantel or alternatively, create a centrepiece on your coffee table.

Scatter cushions and warm throws will help to build that cosy ambience, whilst also offering practicality when the chillier nights draw in.

Lastly, wicker log baskets will once again bring the textures of nature into your home and the practicality of log storage space for your wood burner. Easy access to refuel your stove without leaving the comfort of your cosy space.

Colour Scheme

For colour schemes, the usual suspects of warm browns, oranges and ochre yellows are a great pick for anyone looking to emulate the natural Autumnal season outside.

However, for those who want to try a more elegant, modern palette, alternative colours might be right for you. Navy blues, dark greens and gold and brown accents will mesh traditional autumn colours with a splash of modernity.

Scents

Finally, it’s important to respect all senses when decorating season to season. Smells bring your mind in and offer nostalgia. Go with woody, pine forest and thunderstorm smell to emulate autumn walks in nature.

Alternatively, go for sweeter scents that remind one of baking fresh treats and delicious hot drinks. Vanilla, nutmeg, pumpkin spice and chai latte are some names to look out for when choosing scented candles and room sprays.

Pinterest & Instagram

For visual inspiration, Pinterest and Instagram are wonderful tools to help you build your perfect autumnal area. Work from one post or blend multiple ideas together to have your very own, bespoke style for this autumn.
