All Stovax stoves are designed either for multifuel use, which means they burn logs, smokeless fuels or peat/turf briquettes, or as wood burners only. Stovax multifuel stoves have a riddling grate which allows ash to be riddled into a built-in ashpan to create the optimum conditions for efficient combustion. Whereas the Stovax wood burners have a fixed grate and no ashpan, since wood burns more efficiently on a bed of ashes.

From an environmental point of view burning wood is a cleaner choice as the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is approximately the same as that absorbed by the tree during growth. It is also a renewable source, particularly when derived from plantations and cultivated woodland.
